What is Spam trap?
An email address that exists only to catch senders with poor list practices.
How it works in practice
Pristine traps were never used by a person and can only be on a list that was scraped or bought. Recycled traps are abandoned addresses reactivated to catch senders who don't clean their lists. Typo traps sit on common misspellings of big domains. Hitting one signals to the operator that your list is not consent-based.
The common mistake
Assuming a purchased or scraped list is clean because the addresses 'verify'.
