What is Domain reputation?

The standing of a sending domain with mailbox providers, independent of the IP it sends from.

How it works in practice

Gmail weights domain reputation heavily because IPs are easy to change and domains aren't. It follows the domain in your From address and your DKIM signature, which is why a burned domain stays burned even after moving to a new IP.

The common mistake

Switching sending IPs to escape a bad domain reputation.
