DNS Propagation Checker
Changed an SPF, DKIM, DMARC, MX or A record and want to know if it’s live? Look the record up on 12 public resolvers at once and see which already return the new value. Add the value you expect to get a clear “propagated” or “not yet”.
What this does - and doesn’t - tell you
What’s checked
- The record you pick (A, AAAA, MX, TXT, CNAME or NS) asked live of Google, Cloudflare, Quad9, OpenDNS, Lumen (Level 3), Verisign and 6 more public resolvers.
- Names with underscores work: try
_dmarc.yourdomain.comfor DMARC orselector._domainkey.yourdomain.comfor DKIM, with type TXT. - An optional expected value turns the answers into a count: how many resolvers already return it.
Worth knowing
- These are large public resolvers queried from our server, not servers in different countries - a good guide to what most people see, not a world map.
- How long a change takes depends on the old record’s TTL: resolvers keep the old answer until it expires. Lower the TTL before a planned change.
- New records on a domain nobody has asked about usually show up everywhere within minutes; a changed record can take as long as the old TTL.
- Once it’s live, check that it’s correct with the SPF, DKIM or DMARC checker.
DNS changes for email are easy to get subtly wrong. We set up and verify SPF, DKIM and DMARC for you, then check them stay right.
