What is Promotions tab?
Gmail's category tab for commercial and bulk-looking mail, separate from the Primary inbox.
How it works in practice
Gmail sorts mail into Primary, Promotions, Social and Updates. Promotional layouts, heavy HTML, images and tracked links push a message toward Promotions, and plain, personal-looking text tends to stay in Primary. It is not spam, but it gets far fewer opens.
The common mistake
Counting the Promotions tab as inbox placement for cold outreach.
